About our Sections
The Victoria Scout Group consists of four sections which cater for four age brackets. Each section has its own youth programme, meeting times and leaders.
*All Ages below are the ages they are at the end of the year (on 31st December).
- 07 – 10 years : The Cubs Pack
- 11 – 15 years : The Scout Troop
- 16 – 17 years : The Venture Unit
- 18-26 years: The Rover Crew
- 18+ Leaders & Helpers

When can my son join?
The Victoria Scout Group is a boys-only Scout Group and welcomes new members from the year in which they turn 7, as well as adult volunteers.
New Member Intakes are held at the end of September/start of October each year.
Waiting List
Due to practical limitations of safety, leader resources, and physical limits, each section is limited in the number of scouts that can attend meetings, camps and activities.
- For the section of Cub Scouts (Age 7-10), there is a waiting list.
- For the section of Scout Troop (Age 11-15), there may be a waiting list depending on the number of interested people.
- For sections 16+ there is no waiting list. Scouts usually join within a few weeks.
How does the waiting list work?
Before every intake (usually end of August), a meeting for all those interested will be held at our HQ.
The number of available places for each intake is determined according to the vacancies within the relevant section.
For example, if there are 10 available places and 25 applicants, all 25 names are drawn at random to establish an order. The first 10 names drawn are offered the available places, while the remaining 15 are placed on the waiting list in the order in which their names were drawn.
As further vacancies become available, places are offered to those on the waiting list according to this order.
How can I sign up my son?
To sign-up, click on the appropriate age below that applies to you or your son:
At the end of this year, my son will be 6 or younger
If your son is currently under 6 years of age at the end of the year, he is not eligible to join our group as he is too young. We do not keep a waiting list for those under 6, and hence please do not sign up. You should sign up the year your son turns 7.
At the end of this year, my son/I will be between 7-15 years of age
If your son is aged between 7 and 15 at the end of the year, please fill in the form below before 15th August to be eligible for the September intake.
At the end of this year, my son/I will be older than 15 years of age

FAQ about Joining/Waiting list
What happens after I submit the waiting list form?
Once the form has been submitted, your son’s details will be registered with the Group for the relevant section. You will be contacted with further information regarding the next intake and, where applicable, the intake meeting.
Does joining the waiting list guarantee my son a place this intake?
Not necassarily. Joining the waiting list does not guarantee a place within the Group. The number of available places depends on vacancies, leader availability, safety requirements and the capacity of each section.
Does my son’s position on the waiting list carry over from year to year?
Yes. If your son is not offered a place during the first intake for which he is eligible, his name will remain on the waiting list according to the order established during the draw. He will be contacted once a suitable vacancy becomes available. Other people joing the list in a later year will be appended at the end of the list from prior year.
Do I need to register my son again every year?
No. Once your son has been placed on the waiting list, there is no need to submit a new registration each year. We do, however, ask parents to inform us if their contact details change or if they no longer wish their son to remain on the waiting list.
What happens if my son moves into the next age section while still on the waiting list?
If your son reaches the age for the next section before a place becomes available, his application will be transferred to the appropriate section and considered according to the intake arrangements for that age group.
What time are meetings?
Regular Meetings are held every week at our HQ. For Cub Scouts between 4 pm and 5.30 pm and for the troop between 5.30 pm and 7.30 pm. Regular meeting attendance is mandatory.
How long do I expect to be on the waiting list?
A: This varies according to the section they are eligible for. If your son is eligible for Cub Section (7-10) it may be between a few months to a few years due to the high demand for this section. If your son is eligible for Troop Section (11-15) it may be between a few weeks and a few months, depending on the section interest. These numbers are indicative and may vary on multiple factors.
Are siblings of existing members given priority?
To ensure fairness within the waiting list, siblings are not given priority. Everyone on the waiting list is treated equally, with no special priority.
